Young wrestler Aman Sehrawat on August 9 added another medal to India’s tally at the Paris Olympics 2024 by winning a bronze in the 57kg free-style wrestling category. This victory pushes India’s total medal count to six in the ongoing games. Sehrawat beat Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz 13-5. Earlier, the 21-year-old wrestler had bowed out to Japan's Rei Higuchi in the semi-finals.
The victory has also garnered widespread admiration, including a congratulatory message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Presdient Droupadi Murmu among others.

Congratulating Aman Sehrawat, President Droupadi Murmu wrote, “Heartiest congratulations to Aman Sehrawat on winning the bronze medal in the men's freestyle wrestling event at the Paris Olympic Games. One of the youngest male wrestler in the Games, he has won a medal in his very first Olympics. He has a promising career ahead and he will win several medals and accolades for India. With his success, India continues its tradition of winning Olympic medals in wrestling.”
Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya praised Sehrawat for his historic achievement. “It is a remarkable Bronze for Aman Sehrawat in Wrestling Men's Freestyle 57 kg at #ParisOlympics2024! He has created history by being the youngest Indian Olympic medalist! Your outstanding performance has made the nation proud Aman. Congrats on this achievement.”
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also extended his greetings and wrote, “Hearty congratulations to Aman Sehrawat on winning bronze medal in freestyle wrestling. It was a great pleasure to see India win its sixth medal at the Paris Olympics. The whole country is proud of the performance of our Olympic team.”
BCCI secretary Jay Shah, former cricketer Virender Sehwag and Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra also lauded Indian wrestler for winning the bronze medal in the 57 kg freestyle.

Gautam Gambhir hailed Sehrawat for winning an Olympic medal at the age of 21. "First Olympic medal at just 21! Superb performance #AmanSehrawat," he wrote on X.
Calling it a proud achievement, Virendra Sehwag said, “Shabaash! Congratulations #AmanSehrawat for the wrestling bronze at Paris Olympics. You have made us all so proud.”
