After a star-studded, captivating opening ceremony of the 33rd Olympic Games in Paris, United States of America is leading with 104 medals at Paris Olympics 2024 on 13th day of the events. India dropped to 63rd position in the medal tally.
Vinesh Phogat, the 29-year-old wrestler, scripted history on Tuesday as she became the first Indian woman to qualify for the final match in the women's 50 kg freestyle wrestling event. On the eventful day, India's golden boy Neeraj Chopra secured a spot in the final round in the men’s javelin event as he topped the field in the qualification round. Meanwhile, Team India lost the men's hockey semi-final match against Germany, shattering dream to win gold in hockey after 44 years. Now, the Harmanpreet Singh-led team will compete for the bronze medal.
Team India had won against world no.2 Great Britain in a shoot-out to qualify for the semifinals. Novak Djokovic defeated Carlos Alcaraz to claim a maiden Olympic tennis title.
The Paris Olympics 2024 are currently underway, with August 7 marking the twelfth day of the international multi-sport event. Earlier this week, the Indian contingent delivered an impressive performances, with shooters Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh clinched Bronze medal in the 10m air pistol (mixed team). India took home a third bronze medal for shooting on Thursday as Swapnil Kusale ranked in the men's 50 metre rifle three positions. Bhaker is incidentally the first athlete from the Indian contingent after the nation got independence to bag two medals in a single edition of the Olympics.
As the 2024 Paris Olympics enter their penultimate day, the focus for India shifts to golf and wrestling. Golfers Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar will tee off for their final round in the women's individual stroke play at 12:30 PM IST, with hopes of securing a medal for India.
The wrestling mat will see action from India's Reetika Hooda in the 76kg freestyle category, starting at 3 PM IST.
On the international front, several high-profile events are scheduled. The men's volleyball gold medal match between host nation France and world number one Poland will take place at 4:30 PM IST. This will be followed by the women's volleyball final at 6:30 PM IST, featuring Norway and France.
Football fans can look forward to the women's gold medal match at 8:30 PM IST, with Brazil facing the USA in what promises to be an exciting clash.
Other notable events include the men's marathon, starting at 11:30 AM IST, and a series of athletics finals in the evening, culminating with the men's and women's 4x400m relay finals just after midnight.
The day will conclude with the men's basketball final between France and the USA at 1:00 AM IST on the following day.
The 33rd edition of the Summer Olympics began in Paris on Friday and concludes on August 11.
The Paris Olympics feature 32 sports, including the 28 “core” disciplines, which include breaking, skateboarding, surfing and sports climbing.

The Indian contingent comprises 117 members (70 male and 47 female), including 29 members (11 women and 18 men), who are from athletics, followed by shooting (21) and hockey (19). It will be the second-largest Indian contingent after Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.
