Paris Olympics 2024: After India's underwhelming start on Day 1 in Paris Olympics 2024 as shooters were eliminated in the 10m air rifle mixed team qualification stage as well as 10m air pistol men's qualification, Manu Bhaker entered the 10m women's air pistol final. India also defeated New Zealand 3-2 in their opening group match of men's hockey competition. In Rowing, India's lone rower Balraj Panwar moved to the repechages after finishing fourth. Indian shuttlers Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, and Lakshya Sen won in straight games.

Rowing: Panwar to compete in repechage round

Balraj Panwar, India's lone rower in Paris Olympics campaign, finished at fourth spot in the first heat race. The top three in each heat qualifies for the quarterfinals. However, hope is still alive for Panwar as he is still eligible to compete in the repechage round on Sunday. Panwar had finished 4th at the 2022 Asian Games in China.

Shooting: Manu Bhaker enters 10m shooting final

10m air rifle mixed team qualification: Sandeep Singh/Elavenil Valarivan, Arjun Babuta/Ramita Jindal miss out on a spot in the final.

10m air pistol men's qualification: Arjun Singh Cheema and Sarabjot Singh also missed out on qualification. Sarabjot reached in final series, but missed out on qualification.

10m air pistole women's qualification:  Manu Bhaker enters final. She shot 580 to finish third in the qualifications in which Hungarian ace Veronika Major claimed the top spot with a score of 582. The other Indian representative, Rhythm Sangwan, ended 15th with a score of 573. The final will be held on Sunday.

"One of our teams secured the sixth position and missed the bronze medal play-off by 1 point. But we have full faith in our athletes and there are more events left, so they will do well in the coming days...Today is day one, I am sure that shooters have had their own learning and from here onwards, in the next competitions, they will make these corrections and play with confidence," India shooting Team Head Coach Suma Shirur told ANI.

Badminton: Lakshya Sen wins singles opener in straight sets

 

Men's singles group match: Lakshya Sen beat Kevin Cordon of Guatemala in straight games in a group match of the men's singles badminton competition. Sen will face Julien Carraggi of Belgium on Monday in his second group match.

Men's doubles group match: Impressive win for Satwik-Chirag

Indian men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty beats Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar of France 21-17 21-14 in group match of Paris Olympics badminton competition. Satwik and Chirag will face Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel of Germany in their second match on Monday.

Hockey

India beat New Zealand 3-2 in their opening group match of men's hockey competition at Paris Olympics. Skipper Harmanpreet Singh ensured the win for India, scoring from a penalty stroke just a minute from the hooter. India will play Argentina in their next Pool B match on Monday.
