India captain Suryakumar Yadav and spinner Rinku Singh turned out to be the unlikely heroes with the ball in the final Twenty20 match played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. On the other hand, Washington Sundar applied the finishing touches in all departments to seal off a win in the Super Over.
Rinku Singh and Suryakumar bowled the 19th and 20th overs in Sri Lanka's chase of 137 and the match ended in a tie at Kandy's Pallekele International Stadium. The new era under Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir began with a 3-0 T20I series win over Sri Lanka.
India was put to bat first as Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl. India scored 137 with the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Players including Shubman Gill, Riyan Parag, and Washington Sundar played an impressive game with 39 off 37 balls, 26 off 18 balls and 25 off 18 balls respectively. Sri Lanka's Maheesh Theekshana gave a tough fight to India as he took 3 wickets.
During Sri Lanka's innings, the side ended with a tie as the side scored 137 with the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera played an impressive game by scoring 43 off 41 balls, and 46 off 34 balls respectively. Apart from them none of the players could make an impact on the game. India captain Suryakumar Yadav took 2 wickets of Theekshana and Kamindu Mendis. Other Indian Bowlers including Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, and Rinku Singh also took two wickets each.
As the match ended in a tie, a super over was played where SL scored 2 runs while India scored 4 runs with the loss of no wickets. India's Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav came for the Super over, while Maheesh Theekshana came to bowl. SKY slammed a four on the first delivery and thereby won the match.
