The United States will see an orderly and peaceful transition of power, the White House said following a two-hour long meeting between President-elect Donald Trump and outgoing President Joe Biden on Wednesday.

While speaking to reporters, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that President Biden met with President-elect Trump for approximately two hours in the Oval Office. She added, that It was substantive meeting and exchange of views.

As per Karine Jean-Pierre, they discussed important national security and domestic policy issues facing the nation and the world.

She further added that during the meeting, President Biden also raised important items on Congress's to-do list for the lame-duck session, including funding the government and providing the disaster supplemental funding the president requested.

Jean-Pierre emphasised that the president reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring a smooth and peaceful transition of power, echoing statements made after the election.

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told reporters that transitions are uniquely consequential moments in geopolitics. "They’re a time when competitors and adversaries can see possibly opportunity, because you have this change in government here,” he said.

During the meeting, President Joe Biden extended a warm welcome to President-elect Donald Trump, congratulating him and expressing his hope for a smooth transition of power. Biden said, “Congratulations, and I look forward to a smooth transition.” Trump responded warmly, saying, “Politics is tough and often not a kind world, but today it’s a good one. It will be as smooth as it can be, and I truly appreciate that, Joe.”
