Farah Khan’s mother Menaka Irani passes away at 79; celebs visit Bollywood veteran’s house

Menaka Irani, mother of filmmakers Farah Khan and Sajid Khan, passed away on Friday at the age of 79. This comes days after Farah, in her Instagram post for her mother's 79th birthday, revealed that her the veteran actress had undergone 'multiple surgeries' recently. 

Menaka Irani was the sister of former actors Honey Irani and Daisy Irani.

"Menaka Irani passed away at her son Sajid Khan's residence in suburban Mumbai due to prolonged illness," a source close to the family said.

Several celebrities, including her 1963 film 'Bachpan' co-actor Salim Khan, Rani Mukerji, and Sanjay Kapoor were spotted visiting Farah's house to pay their last respects to the Bollywood veteran.

Maniesh Paul, Fardeen Khan, Vikram Phadnis, Shoaib Ibrahim and Shiv Thakare were also spotted outside Farah's house.

Menaka Irani's 79th birthday

Two weeks ago, on July 12, Menaka Irani celebrated her 79th birthday. Both her children shared loving social media posts on her special day and shared that the veteran actress just returned home from hospital, after undergoing several operations in the past month. However, none of them elaborated on what happened to Menaka that led to the surgeries. 

Farah Khan Kunder, in her Instagram post, wrote: “We all take our mothers for granted..especially me! This last month has been a revelation on how much i lov my mom Menka.. (sic)”

The filmmaker and choreographer added that her mother has been the “strongest”, and the “bravest” person she has ever seen, with her “sense of humour intact even after multiple surgeries”.

“Happy birthday mom! Today’s a good day to come back home. can’t wait for you to get strong enough to start fighting with me again.. i Lov u,” Farah had added. 

Sajid Khan also shared a photo with Menaka and Farah for Menaka's birthday, and wrote: “Happy Birthday Mummy...”
