Mumbai local train update: Local train services on the routes of Ambarnath, and Karjat, on both arrival and departure lines, at Badlapur have been affected, due to protests against the alleged sexual assault of a girl child, on Tuesday, said the Mumbai Divisional Railways Manager.
Earlier today, the CPRO of Central Railways had said that the local trains were stopped at Central railway station due to the agitations.
According to a video released by PTI, thousands of people were seen agitating, after a school sweeper was arrested in connection with the case, in Maharashtra.
According to a report by the ANI, residents in Badlapur protested against the sexual abuse of two minor girls which occurred last week. The parents came to know about the incident on August 18 and filed an FIR.
So far, the police have arrested one person in connection with the case. The police further stated that one of the children, aged four, narrated the incident to her parents. Thereafter, the parents contacted the other girl's family. The complaint was filed by both parties after the former said their daughter was afraid of going to school.
Priyanka Chaturvedi, UBT Sena MP, condemned the incident, stating that the entire state has been outraged over the incident. She further urged the President to approve the Maharashtra Shakti Criminal Law.
“Two young girls were sexually assaulted in Badlapur, Maharashtra in the school premises; the entire state is outraged and seeks justice. I once again urge the President to approve the Maharashtra Shakti Criminal Law, so that no other child or woman faces this travesty. Shame on the state government to continue to ignore the safety of women,” said Chaturvedi, reported the ANI.
Speaking about the incident, Maharashtra Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar termed it as a very sad incident. He further assured that the case would be taken on priority, and would be taken to Fast track court, while ensuring maximum punishment is metted out to the accused.
"This is a very sad incident. The entire machinery of the state education department has been activated. We have given instructions to 4 IAS officers from Pune and Mumbai. We are inquiring why the CCTV was not working in the school...After the complaint was given, no action was taken. So the Senior PI has been transferred. We will take this case to Fast Track court and ensure that the maximum punishment is given to the accused...Our entire department is present here and the safety of students is our priority," said Kesarkar, reported the ANI.
