Delhi news: Building collapses in Nabi Karim area, 2 rescued, search operation underway

A building collapsed in Nabi Karim, Delhi. Two of the three trapped individuals have been rescued, while the Fire Department continues efforts to rescue the third person.

Delhi news: A portion of a building collapsed in Nabi Karim area on Friday morning trapping three individuals, reported ANI. Delhi Fire Department official said that two of the three people who were trapped underneath the debris have suffered injuries while another succumbed to the disaster.

Following the impact of the collapse, one person died and two were injured. A boundary wall of a 'dargah' reportedly collapsed in the Nabi Karim area at around 6:45 AM on Friday, September 13, as heavy rains continued to wreak havoc in the national capital. “The deceased is identified as Rehmat, aged 35 years belonged to Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi and was an e-rickshaw driver. The debris is being removed from the spot,” ANI quoted Delhi Police as saying.

Fire Department's three fire tenders promptly pressed into service after being alerted about the tragic incident in Central Delhi. An official of the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) informed news agency PTI that a call in connection with the incident was received at 7:00 AM.

The rescue team dug out a man trapped under the debris, who was declared dead when taken to the hospital. The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Rehmat who hails from Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi. As per reports, the deceased used to drive an e-rickshaw and live in a temporary structure set up under the wall. “The debris is being removed from the spot,” Delhi Fire Service officer said.

The incident occurred amid intermittent rainfall in the national capital since the last few days. The excessive rainfall in this monsoon season has caused a number of rain-related disasters. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Delhi predicted generally cloudy sky with light rainfall and thundershowers during the day amid yellow alert. Wet spells will most likely continue till September 14. The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 30 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature will hover around 21.4 degrees Celsius on Friday.
