Delhi AQI drops to severe: Airport issues advisory for passengers in view of smog conditions

  • The Delhi Airport issued an advisory for passengers due to poor smog conditions affecting air quality in the city.

Delhi AQI: Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on November 14 issued advisory for its passengers in view of smog conditions. The air quality in the national capital dropped to ‘severe’ category with AQI recording at 426 at 10.30 am, as per SAFAR data.

In its advisory, it wrote, “Low visibility procedures are in progress at delhi airport. All flight operations are presently normal. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information.” 

The city also recorded its lowest minimum temperature of the season so far at 16.1 degrees Celsius, three notches above the normal, according to the weather department.

Earlier on November 13, visibility at IGI Airport dropped to zero meters, causing ten flights to be delayed or diverted. While the airport remained operational, flights without Category III landing systems, which are used for low-visibility conditions, were mostly impacted.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", 401 and 450 "severe" and above 450 "severe plus".

Trains running late today

Citing official sources, News18 reported that around 12 trains arriving at New Delhi railway station are delayed by at least one hour, including the CSMT ASR Express, INDB NDLS EXP, and Malwa SF Express, which are running late this morning.

AQI in several areas

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) at 11 am, various areas in Delhi recorded high AQI levels: Anand Vihar at 466, Alipur at 401, Ashok Vihar at 466, Aya Nagar at 424, Chandni Chowk at 404, IGI Airport T3 at 438, Dwarka Sector 8 at 463, Jahangirpuri at 464, Narela at 430, Nehru Nagar at 460, Okhla Phase 2 at 438, Patparganj at 471, Punjabi Bagh at 459, RK Puram at 452, Rohini at 450, Shadipur at 428, Wazirpur at 463, Sonia Vihar at 434, and Sirifort at 438.
