Paris Olympics 2024 medal tally: Indian Hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh and shooter Manu Bhaker were flagbearers at closing ceremony at Stade de France in Paris on August 11 local time (August 12 as per IST).
India have won a total of six medals, including a silver in Javelin throw and 5 bronzes – 3 in shooting, one in men's hockey and one in shooting. Meanwhile, the CAS decision on wrestler Vinesh Phogat's disqualification is expected to be announced on August 13.
Neeraj Chopra won silver medal for men's javelin. This is India's first silver medal in Paris Olympics 2024. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem won the gold in a historic first.
Wrestler Aman Sehrawat, making his Olympic debut, secured a medal with a 13-5 victory over Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz, marking India's first wrestling medal at the Paris 2024 Games. He clinched the bronze medal in the men's freestyle 57 kg wrestling event at the Paris Olympics.
Earlier, Swapnil Kusale secured a medal for India at the Paris Olympics 2024 as he won a bronze for 50m rifle 3 positions event on August 1. Kusale got a total score of 451.4. The gold was won by China’s Yukun Liu at a score of 463.6, and Ukraine’s Serhiy Kulish won silver at a score of 461.3.
On Day 8 of the Paris Olympics, Indian shooter Manu Bhaker, who has already made history by becoming the first Indian athlete to win two bronze medals, made a memorable performance in the 25m sports pistol, as she booked a place in the final in second spot.
Previously, Bhaker made history when she became the first Indian women's athlete to win a second medal at the same Olympics. Bhaker and her partner Sarabjot Singh secured bronze in the 10 m air pistol mixed team event. Earlier, Bhaker had won bronze in the women's individual 10 m air pistol event.
The closing ceremony at Paris begans from 9 pm local time (12:30 AM IST, August 12). The flag bearers from India for the Paris 2024 Olympics Closing ceremony were Indian Hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh and Shooter Manu Bhakar.
According to various site, a five-time Grammy winner H.E.R., rapper Snoop Dogg, Billie Eilish, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and others performed at the event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Bhaker for winning India's first medal at the Paris Olympics and said her success is even more special as she becomes the first woman to win a medal in shooting for India.
Taking to microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter), PM Modi said, “A historic medal! Well done, @realmanubhaker, for winning India's FIRST medal at #ParisOlympics2024! Congrats for the Bronze. This success is even more special as she becomes the first woman to win a medal in shooting for India. An incredible achievement!” he added.
Bhaker’s achievement ended India's 13-year wait for a shooting medal in the Olympics. This was also the first medal India won at the Paris Olympics. The last time India won medals at the Olympics was in the 2012 London edition, when rapid-fire pistol shooter Vijay Kumar and 10m air rifle marksman Gagan Narang clinched bronze.

The Indian contingent comprises 117 members (70 male and 47 female), including 29 members (11 women and 18 men), who are from athletics, followed by shooting (21) and hockey (19). It will be the second-largest Indian contingent after the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.
As many as 72 athletes of the Indian contingent will be making their debut in the Paris Olympics, almost 61%. This year, the largest contingent of 29 participants is athletes, including two reserves from India. Shooting has the second-largest contingent.
