IPL 2025 auction Day-2: Punjab Kings on Monday signed South African all-rounder Marco Jansen for ₹7 crore and Australian cricketer Josh Inglis for ₹2.60 crore on second day of the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
24-year-old Jansen was released by Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the auction.
He had previously represented Mumbai Indians in 2021 and 2022 seasons.
Josh Inglis, wicketkeeper-batsman is yet to play in the IPL.
In international cricket, he has played 29 matches so far and has scored 706 runs.
Inglis has been playing in the Big Bash League since 2017. He also played in the Major League Cricket, T20 Blast, and the Hundred.
Australian all-rounder Aaron Hardie was picked by PBKS for ₹1.25 crore and will play with Aussie stars Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, and Glenn Maxwell. He has played 11 ODIs and 13 T20Is for Australia.
Aussie pacer Xavier Bartlett also joined PBKS for ₹80 lakh.
Young Delhi batter Priyansh Arya was also picked up by Punjab Kings for ₹3.8 crore. Entering at ₹30 lakh, he attracted bids from Delhi Capitals and RCB before being picked by PBKS.
Punjab Kings also picked up Musheer Khan and Mumbai all-rounder Suryash Shedge for ₹30 lakh each.
IPL 2025 auction Day-1: Punjab Kings (PBKS) made most noise on the first day of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 (Sunday) as they shelled out ₹62.75 crore on Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal and Shreyas Iyer. They became the first team to buy a player in this year's auction when Punjab Kings secured the services of Arshdeep for ₹18 using a Right-to-match card. Chahal also joined PBKS for ₹18 crore
Second in their list was Iyer who was bought for ₹26.75 crore to make the costliest in history until Rishabh Pant was snatched away by Lucknow Super Giants for a record ₹27 crore. With Iyer locked in, the Indian batter reunites with Ricky Ponting as the duo has worked together in Delhi Capitals, taking them to final in 2020.
Iyer could also be Punjab Kings' potential captain for IPL 2025. Unlike the other franchises, PBKS have a reputation of overhauling their whole squad during mega auctions. .
Interestingly, Punjab Kings have never won a title despite having some of the big names in world cricket. Their best finish was in the 2014 season when they reached the final in 2014, losing to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the summit clash.
With legendary Ricky Ponting as their head coach, Punjab Kings are on their way to put in a strong side for the upcoming season. They also roped in the Australian duo of Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell. Among the uncapped stars, PBKS got the services of Harpreet Brar, Nehal Wadhera, Vijaykumar Vyshak and Yash Thakur.
“I am very happy to be back in Punjab. Hopefully, we will the title this time,” he said in a video from Australia after he went to Punjab Kings. "I am elated to join the Punjab Kings family. Can't wait to kickstart the season, looking forward," said Iyer.
