Najmul Hossain Shanto-led Bangladesh on 25 August made history by securing its first-ever victory against Shan Masood-led Pakistan in Test cricket at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
In the opening Test of the 2-match series in Rawalpindi, Bangladesh secured a 10-wicket victory. This is Bangladesh's maiden Test win against Pakistan. They have won only two Tests on foreign soil in the last seven years.
After this win, Bangladesh Cricket took to X and congratulated the entire team for a historic win.
It may come as a surprise but Pakistan also have not won a Test at home since February 2021 against South Africa, according to Cricinfo.
The latest win by Bangladesh over Pakistan may give a reason to the people of the country, which saw a lot of political chaos and violence in the past couple of months.
This was the first time Bangladesh and Pakistan played against each other in a bilateral series post-2002. Before that both the countries clashed head to head in a Test match back in 2001 Asian Test Championship in which Sri Lanka was also included. In that series, Sri Lanka emerged as winner.
The first Test, which began on 21 August in Rawalpindi, witnessed the home team, Pakistan, batting superbly in the first innings. They scored a whopping 448 after losing six wickets in 113 overs.
For Pakistan, Mohammed Rizwan scored an unbeaten 171 runs, while Saud Shakeel scored 141 runs. Saim Ayub took hit 56 runs.
From the Bangladesh side, Shoriful Islam and Hasan Mahmud picked up 2 wickets each, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan took one each.
Trailing by 448 runs, Bangladesh scored 565 runs in 167.3 overs. Bangladesh's Mushfiqur Rahim scored a whopping 191 runs, while Shadman Islam (93), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (77), Litton Das (56) and Mominul (50) contributed to a great extent.
For Pakistan, Naseem Shah took three wickets, while Shaheen Shah Afridi, Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Ali picked two wickets each. Saim Ayub clinched one.
In the second innings, Pakistan could only score 146 and gave a target of 29 runs to win for Bangladesh. The maximum a Pakistani player could score was Mohammad Rizwan (51).
For Bangladesh, Mehidy Hasan Miraz took 4 wickets, Shakid picked three, while Shoriful, Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana clinched one each.
Chasing 29 runs, Bangladesh's openers Zakir Hasan (15*) and Shadman Islam (9*) completed it in just 6.3 overs.
