In his first political speech on Sunday, Tamil superstar Vijay laid out the ideology of his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). He said, ""In terms of ideology, we are not going to separate Dravidian Nationalism and Tamil Nationalism. They are two eyes of this soil."
"We shouldn't shrink ourselves to any specific identity," Vijay said.
The actor-turned-politician added, "Secular Social Justice ideologies are our ideology and we going to act based on that. After reading the failures and successful stories in politics. I have left my career at the peak and that salary and I am here as your Vijay, trusting you all."
Vijay also criticised the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), alleging that "one family" is looting the state through "underground dealings."
"There's a group singing the same tune, labelling everyone who enters politics and deceiving the people. They are involved in underground dealings. Under the guise of the Dravidian Model, they are misleading people as an anti-people government," he was quoted by ANI as saying.
He remarked that politics is "not a cine field but a battlefield," adding that his party members must be vigilant on the ground.
"Politics is not a cine field; it is a battlefield. It's serious. Whether it's dealing with a snake or politics, if we decide to take it up with seriousness and a touch of humour, only then can we endure in this field and handle opponents. We need to stay cautious on the ground," Vijay said.
