Akhilesh Yadav climbs boundary wall after being stopped from garlanding JP Narayan, warns of ’total revolution’ | Watch

A small event to observe the anniversary of socialist leader JP Narayan took a dramatic turn when Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav had to climb the boundary wall of Jayaprakash Narayan Interpretation Centre (JPNIC) in Lucknow on Wednesday.

After being allegedly prevented from entering the centre, Akhilesh Yadav climbed its boundary wall to pay tribute to JP Narayan.

Later, he condemned the locking of gates at JPNIC and claimed that the act was done to prevent him from garlanding the bust of Jayprakash Narayan. The Samajwadi Party (SP) president even warned of calling a ‘complete revolution’ like the social reformer.

"Will we have to call for a complete revolution like Jayaprakash Narayan-ji even for garlanding his bust? If that is acceptable to the BJP then so be it," Yadav said in a post on social media platform 'X'.

"On the birth anniversary of the great socialist thinker and strong advocate for social justice, Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan-ji, is the path of JPNIC being blocked by putting up these tin sheets to stop the SP from garlanding his bust?" the SP chief posted in Hindi on X. Questioning the act, he said that the tin barricades were put up to stop the party from paying tribute to JP Narayan's bust.

He also accused the BJP government in the state of corruption, unemployment and inflation. In his tweet, he also said that the BJP is afraid of JP Narayan's movement against corruption, unemployment and inflation. Under the BJP, corruption, unemployment and inflation have been many times more than what had led to the JP movement."

However, the officials cited security concerns as the reason for denying access to the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh inside the JP Narayan International Centre.

The Lucknow Development Authority also put up tin barricades and deploying heavy security forces. 

JP Narayan is known for leading a mass movement against the Congress government. He also formed the first non-Congress government in the country by uniting the entire Opposition against the alleged corrupt and unjust rule of the Congress during the Emergency.

He is known for his remarkable revolution, called Sampoorna Kranati, aka total revolution. He is remembered for leading a rainbow coalition of Opposition parties in the mid-1970s against then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
