Balasubramanian was stopped a gang of over four individuals, who fled the scene after fatally assaulting him. The deputy secretary was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where was declared dead upon arrival. This incident comes amid the death of Tamil Nadu BSP chief, K. Armstrong's murder, who was hacked to death on July 5, 2024.
According to reports, the attack occurred on Vallabai Road in Chokkikulam, which falls under the jurisdiction Tallakulam police station. The city police commissioner suspects the murder is linked to a family feud.
"It seems that this murder was done because of his family problem. An investigation is underway. We will file an FIR shortly," Loganathan told ANI.
Police records state that Balakrishnan was a history-sheeter with three pending cases against him. Preliminary investigation reveals that the murder may have been due to personal enmity, said the police.
The Chennai police also suspect the involvement of associates of gangster Arcot Suresh, who was murdered in August 2023. The additional commissioner of police, Asra Garg said that eight have been arrested, alongwith a Zomato branded t-shirt, and bag.
"After sustained interrogation, due analysis, and diligence regarding the facts and circumstances of each suspect, we have arrested eight people. We have seized seven blood-stained weapons, one Zomato t-shirt, a Zomato bag, and three bikes that were used in the commission of the offence, the ACP told ANI.
ACP Garg suspects that the killing is also related to the late Tamil Nadu B.S.P chief K. Armstrong. Highlighting the suspected motive behind the killing, Garg mentioned that the associates of gangster Arcot Suresh, who was assassinated last year, believed it was "conspired" by Armstrong, reported ANI.
