Maharashtra news: Third hit-and-run case in 3 months as Audi rams into 2 autorickshaws in Mumbai’s Mulund, 1 critical

Three people were injured when a speeding Audi collided with two autorickshaws in Mumbai's Mulund area on Monday, July 22. The incident left one of the auto drivers critically injured and the accused driver is absconding, reported NDTV. This marks the third hit-and-run case involving luxury cars in Maharashtra in three months.

The two other individuals injured in the Mulund accident were autorickshaw passengers. Following the car crash, Mulund police seized the Audi, but its driver has been missing since the accident. 

The earlier two hit-and-run accidents involving luxury cars had sparked public outrage in Maharashtra.

A tragic car crash incident was reported on May 19 where a minor, the son of a Pune realtor, accused of drunk driving, ran over two 24-year-old techies from Madhya Pradesh. The teen was accused of driving a Porsche car in an inebriated state when the incident occurred late at night. The Pune Porsche accident made headlines and drew sharp criticism after the teen was granted bail in the case on flimsy grounds.

He was later remanded to an observation home by the Juvenile Justice Board. The teen's family desperately attempted to wipe out evidence to save him, including the replacement of his blood sample, according to reports.

The most recent incident was reported in the morning hours of July 7 in Mumbai's Worli. The accused, 24-year-old Mihir Shah, ran over a woman with his BMW. During interrogation, Shah, the son of a Shiv Sena leader, confessed to being in an inebriated state when the accident happened. In the crash, a 45-year-old woman identified as Kaveri Nakhwa, who was a pillion rider on the two-wheeler, was killed, and her husband Pradip Nakhwa suffered injuries.

According to an NDTV report, Mihir Shah allegedly used a fake identity card at the pub. The ID card notes his age as 27 years, but as per official records, he is 24 years old. He used this ID to get access to alcoholic drinks since the minimum legal drinking age in Maharashtra is 25.
