A woman was electrocuted and died at New Delhi railway station on Sunday while grabbing an electric pole outside the station.

A woman lost her life due to electrocution on the premises of New Delhi railway station on Sunday, according to Delhi police as reported by news agency ANI. 

The deceased, identified as Sakshi Ahuja, a resident of Preet Vihar, Delhi arrived at the station around 5:30am with her relatives. She was electrocuted when she grabbed an electric pole outside the station. The incident occurred as she was about to board the Bhopal Shatabdi train.

Authorities have sent the woman's body to Lady Hardinge Hospital for post-mortem, and a thorough investigation is currently underway. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL)was present at the scene to gather evidence and assist in determining the cause of the electrocution.

Preliminary findings suggest that the woman may have grabbed the pole to avoid standing in the waterlogged area outside the railway station. Delhi police have registered a case and are continuing their probe into the incident.

"A complaint alleging the concerned authority for their negligence was received and a case u/s 287/304-A IPC was registered. FSL, Rohini team is inspecting the place of incident. The investigation is underway," said Delhi police officials, as reported by ANI.

On Sunday, parts of the national capital, Delhi, experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms.

The investigation is ongoing, with the FSL team from Rohini examining the scene of the incident.

Expressing his anguish and seeking justice for his daughter's untimely demise, Mr. Chopra firmly held the concerned authority responsible for their negligence, which he believes led to this tragic incident. The incident unfolded while the daughter-father duo were on their way to Chandigarh, and Lokesh Kumar Chopra, the grieving father, found himself in the parking area when he received the devastating news.

This incident follows another electrocution-related tragedy involving the Coromandel Express, where approximately 40 passengers are believed to have lost their lives due to electrocution. The passengers had no visible injury marks, and the incident occurred when live overhead wires snapped and entangled with some coaches, electrocuting the trapped passengers.

The death toll from the triple train accident has now risen to 278, as three more passengers succumbed to their injuries after being hospitalised, reported ABP news.
