Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Rahul Kanal, who has now joined Eknath Shinde's camp has opened up on allegations related to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput and his ex-manager Disha Salian. Kanal, the former close aide of Aditya Thackeray, demanded a detailed probe into the case.
Interestingly, Kanal's crossover to Sena came on a day Aaditya Thackeray led a morcha against alleged scams and corruption in the Mumbai civic body.
"Tomorrow if people say that I have joined you because of (actor) Sushant Singh Rajput or (his ex-manager) Disha Salian case....so I want to tell you with folded hands that please investigate it," Kanal, who joined the Shiv Sena in the presence of Shinde, his son, and MP Shrikant Shinde, and party MLAs said.
The minister added that if his name crops up then whip him with the shoes, and added, "There is a need for detailed investigation and I can go anywhere for this".
He agreed that he got a lot from Shiv Sena (UBT) camp but "I have returned 100%," he added.
Reacting to Kanal switching sides, Aaditya Thackeray, in a veiled barb at BJP, said those who want to jump into a "washing machine" can do that.
The focus on the death of Disha Salian returns after BJP's Devendra Fadnavis said police were still recording statements and the case has not been closed.
Salian, 28, former manager of the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput allegedly died by suicide from a high-rise building in the Malad area on 8 June 2020 a few days before Rajput’s alleged suicide.
Kanal was part of the core committee of Aditya Thackeray-led Yuva Sena. He was raided by the income tax department last year. A popular face in Bandra, Kanal is a restaurateur and is popular in Bollywood circle. Kanal owns Bandra's Bhaijaanz restaurant which was named after Salman Khan. He runs NGO I Love Mumbai. He was a trustee of Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust.
