A major fire broke out at an abandoned building close to the Manipur secretariat complex near Chief Minister N Biren Singh's official bungalow on Saturday.

At least three fire tenders were pressed into the service and the blaze was doused after an hour-long effort.

No person was injured in the incident. However, the reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.

According to PTI, the building belonged to the family of late IAS officer T Kipgen, former chief secretary of Goa.

Officials said that the house has been abandoned since last year's violence.

NDTV reported that the building is also close to the office of the Kuki Inpi, a civil society group of the Kuki tribes.

RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat on Manipur violence

Recently, asserting that the situation in Manipur must be considered with "priority", Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat said that North eastern state has been awaiting "peace" for a year.

"Manipur has been looking for peace for a year now. It should be discussed on priority. The state had been peaceful for the past 10 years. It felt like the old 'gun culture' had come to a demise. It is still burning in the fire of the sudden tension that rose there or that was made to rise there. Who will pay attention to that?It is the duty to prioritise it and take note of it." ANI quoted Mohan Bhagwat as saying.

Attack on advance convoy

Last week, the advance convoy of CM Biren Singh was attacked ahead of his expected visit to Jiribam after reports of fresh violence in the area.

"I strongly condemn the dastardly attacks on the security personnel who are carrying out their duties day and night in service of the state and the country," Singh said in a post on 'X'.

A BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh had also raised concerns about security breaches and demanded an inquiry into police officers who received advance intelligence reports regarding the situation in Jiribam earlier this year.
