Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, July 15, extended wishes to K P Sharma Oli, newly sworn in Nepalese Prime Minister and said that he looks forward to strengthening the deep friendship between the two nations.
PM Modi posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter): “Congratulations @kpsharmaoli on your appointment as the Prime Minister of Nepal.”
The post further reads, “I look forward to working closely to further strengthen the deep bonds of friendship between our two countries and to expand our mutually beneficial cooperation for the progress and prosperity of our peoples. @PM_nepal_ (SIC).”
On Sunday, July 14, 72-year-old K P Sharma Oli was appointed Nepal's PM for the third time. He succeeded Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and will lead the new coalition government.
On Friday, July 12, Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' lost the vote of confidence in the House of Representatives, receiving only 63 votes in favour and 194 against him in the 275-member House of Representatives. Later that day, K P Sharma Oli staked a claim to become the next Prime Minister with the backing of Nepali Congress (NC) president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Thereafter, K P Sharma Oli submitted the signatures of 165 House of Representatives members—77 from his party and 88 from the NC.
Thus, after Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda lost the vote of confidence, a new government was formed as per Article 76 (2) of the Nepali Constitution. President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed K P Sharma Oli the new Prime Minister of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML)-Nepali Congress coalition.
On Monday, July 15, K P Sharma Oli and the new Cabinet took the oath of office at the presidential building, Shital Niwas, in Nepal's capital, Kathmandu. The newly sworn-in Prime Minister served as Prime Minister from October 11, 2015, to August 3, 2016, and then from February 5, 2018, to July 13, 2021.
