An Army jawan and a CRPF trooper were injured on Tuesday after an encounter broke out in Jammu and Kashmir. An unidentified terrorist was also killed during the encounter.
Officials said they had launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Choontpathri forest area of Bandipora district based on information about the presence of ultras. A gunfight broke out on as the terrorists opened fire on the security forces in the Ketsun forest area.
“Based on specific intelligence input regarding presence of terrorists in general area Kaitsan forest, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the CRPF in general area Chuntawadi Kaitsan, Bandipora. Contact was established and firefight ensued. Operation is in progress,” read an update from the Chinar Corps handle on X.
The injured officials have since been taken to a hospital and a follow-up update indicated that their operation was underway.
The incident is the latest spate of attacks and clashes that have plagued the northern Union Territory in recent months. Earlier on Tuesday the Jammu and Kashmir police along with 22RR and 92 BN of the Central Reserve Police Force apprehended one terrorist associate in Sopore.
