Hyderabad : Malyalam actor, Vinayakan was handed over to the airport police on Sunday, after he was found in a drunken state, and misbehaved with the gate staff at the Rajeev Gandhi International(RGI) Airport, said CISF officials.
"The CISF handed him over to the RGI Airport Police and we have registered a case under the City Police Act," said K. Balaju, the inspector of RGI airport.
Vinayakan had played the role of the villain in the Rajnikanth starrer Jailer, which hit the theatres on August 10, 2023.
In a video clip that as gone viral, the Malyalam actor can be seen yelling at officials.
According to reports, Vinayakan was earlier arrested in October 2023 for creating a ruckus at a local police station in Ernakulum, Kerala. He was reported to have caused inconveniences to residents of his apartment, and complaints were filed against him.
The actor had also drawn attention for his insensitive remarks regarding the death of former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. He had further made controversial comments about the MeToo movement in 2022.
Actor Vinayakan has appeared in numerous Tamil and Malayalam films. He is set to appear soon in the Tamil film Dhruva Natchathiram, and in the Malayalam films Thekku Vadakku and Karinthandan.
The Malayalam film industry is currently facing a scandal involving accusations of sexual harassment made by several women actors against well-known individuals in the industry.
On August 30, 2024, an aspiring male actor lodged a complaint against director Ranjith, saying that the director forced him to strip naked and sexually assaulted him.
According to the actor, in 2012, Ranjith invited him to a hotel in Bangalore for an audition, during which the alleged assault occurred.
Complaints have also been lodged against Ranjith, Siddique, and Jayasurya. Protests erupted in Kerala, accusing the government of shielding culprits, including actor-politician Mukesh.
