Actor-turned-politician Govinda accidentally shot himself in the leg with his revolver on Tuesday morning. The Shiv Sena leader was rushed to a hospital and is undergoing treatment, reported ANI citing a Mumbai Police official.
The mishap occurred when Govinda was getting ready to leave for Kolkata. His licensed revolver fell from his hand and a bullet got fired, causing injury in his leg. He was rushed to the hospital after the accident, where the bullet was removed from his leg, Govinda's manager Shashi Sinha told ANI.
The actor hasn’t lodged any complaint so far, reported PTI. Govinda, 60, was taken for treatment to a nearby Criticare hospital hospital and has returned to his residence, the official said.
“We had a 6 am flight to catch for a show in Kolkata and I had reached the airport. Govinda ji was about to leave his residence for the airport when this accident happened,” the actor’s manager said.
“The revolver apparently fell down while being kept in the cupboard and misfire. It is due to god’s grace that Govinda ji sustained only leg injury and it was nothing serious,” he said.
Bollywood actor Govinda rose to fame with movies like Raja Babu, Coolie No.1, Hero No.1, etc. He joined Shiv Sena led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in March this year, which marked his return to politics nearly after 14 years. He was active in politics with Congress from 2004 to 2009.
He was also elected as a Member of Parliament from Mumbai North in 2004. After his victory, Govinda emerged as a “giant killer” when he defeated BJP stalwart Ram Naik in the Mumbai North seat. The actor termed his tie up with Shiv Sena as the end of his 14-year-long canvas (exile) from politics. Govinda started his acting career in the 1980s and most of his film were mass entertainers.
