Prajwal Revanna sex abuse case: A Bengaluru court denied former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna's bail plea on Wednesday. Revanna faces serious charges, including rape and sexual harassment in multiple cases, under investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
Newswire PTI reported that the Additional City Civil and Sessions Court Judge reserved his ruling on the plea on Monday and passed the orders rejecting it today.
The 33-year-old, one of the youngest members of parliament, has been embroiled in controversy since allegedly his explicit videos surfaced before the recent Lok Sabha polls. Prajwal, who represented the Hassan Constituency in the 17th Lok Sabha, denies the authenticity of these videos, claiming they are fabricated to tarnish his reputation.
Revanna had failed to retain the Hassan parliamentary constituency in the recently concluded 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Indian Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and nephew of former Karnataka Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy, is a Bangalore Institute of Technology graduate.
His arrest on May 31 upon his return from Germany, where he was purportedly evading legal proceedings, marked a dramatic turn in the case. Despite his family's political stature, efforts to secure his release on bail have been unsuccessful.
The sexual abuse case has further entangled his family, with his brother Suraj Revanna also facing allegations of sexual abuse. Additionally, Prajwal's mother, Bhavan Revanna, has been implicated as a key figure in the abduction of one of the alleged victims. She went viral more than 6 months ago for a video that recorded her reaction to a bike crashing into her luxury.
Meanwhile, PTI reported quoting sources that Prajwal Revanna was taken to Holenarasipura for a "spot mahazar" (inquest) at his residence concerning the last case registered against him.
