Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal lost 8.5 kgs in jail, said AAP leader Sanjay Singh on Saturday, July 13. He further alleged that significant weight loss is indicative of a serious disease. Adding to Arvind Kejriwal's health woes in jail, were his blood sugar level that plunged five times, dropping as low as 50 mg/dL.
This development comes a day after the Supreme Court granted the Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) national convenor interim bail in the excise policy case.
However, the apex court's verdict did not earn a release from jail for the Delhi CM who was arrested by the Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) later in connection with a related case. Moreover, the court mandated interim bail contingent on certain conditions. The apex court restricted AAP convener from visiting the CM office and Delhi Secretariat during his interim release.
Furthermore, Arvind Kejriwal was asked to furnish bail bonds of ₹50,000. “The interim bail may be extended, or recalled by the larger Bench, "t he Supreme Court added.
Last month, the AAP said that Arvind Kejriwal’s health has been deteriorating rapidly since his arrest. Raising concern over Arvind Kejriwal’s health, the party in a statement claimed that Arvind Kejriwal's health is “highly worrisome” as he lost 8 kgs since his arrest.
“The continuous weight loss, deemed very serious by the doctors, highlights the necessity for immediate and thorough medical evaluations to address and understand the root cause of Arvind Kejriwal’s health decline,” AAP said in a statement.
According to AAP, Delhi Chief Minister's health has been a significant concern since his arrest. Arvind Kejriwal's weight dropped from 70 kg at the time of his arrest to 62 kg by June 22. The AAP alleged that Delhi CM's health condition prompted the AIIMS medical board to recommend 'parathas' and 'puri' in his diet to address the weight loss.
AAP also claimed that despite urgent recommendations from doctors at Max Hospital for a comprehensive medical examination, only a few blood tests were conducted. The most important heart and cancer screening tests remain pending, the AAP contended.
