Dehradun Accident: Six youngsters, including three women, were killed, and one person was critically injured when their speeding multi-utility vehicle (MUV) crashed into a container truck near ONGC Chowk in Dehradun. As per the Times of India report, the incident happened on the night of November 11.
The victims, aged 19 to 24 years, were identified as Guneet Singh, Kamakshi Singhal, Navya Goyal, Rishabh Jain, Atul Agarwal, and Kunal Kukreja. The sole survivor, Siddhesh Agarwal, is hospitalised and in stable condition, TOI reported.
CCTV footage and statements from passersby indicate that the young people were travelling in Innova at a speed of 100 kmph. An investigating officer told TOI that the MUV was likely a new vehicle, as it had no number plates.
The officer added that a luxury car overtook the Innova at high speed, prompting the driver to accelerate in an attempt to catch up. Meanwhile, a container truck was crossing the intersection at a normal pace, resulting in the collision. He also told the daily that, “the youngsters were returning from a party which was hosted by Siddhesh Agarwal.”
"Driver of the MUV misjudged the timing, thinking they could also cross the intersection before the truck, which was heading towards Kaulagarh from Kishangarh Chowk. As a result, the speeding MUV collided with the truck's left side from behind," the police said as quoted by TOI.
Station House officer Inspector KC Bhatt at the Canntt police station also told TOI that they have not yet received any complaint from the victim's family members, which could warrant case registration.
Inspector Bhatt told TOI that the preliminary investigation indicated that the container truck driver was not at fault, as the MUV collided with the truck's rear left section, a known blind spot for large vehicles.
