Republican Donald Trump won the reliably conservative state of Missouri after voting on Tuesday, the Associated Press reported. Trump's victory in Missouri aligns with the trend of the previous two presidential elections, where voters had overwhelmingly favoured the businessman-turned-politician over Democrats.
In the past decade, the GOP has become increasingly dominant in Missouri, and Republicans now hold all statewide political offices. Republicans also hold large majorities in both legislative chambers.
The early vote-counting trends indicate Donald Trump's lead over Kamala Harris in most of the electoral votes. According to the latest data from the Associated Press, Donald Trump is leading in nearly 27 states compared to Kamala Harris, who is leading in nearly 16-17 states.
The Former US President is eyeing another term at White House as he has garnered nearly 214 electoral votes, compared to Kamala Harris who is still at 179, according to AP. Donald Trump is likely to meet the magical 270 mark later in the day.
So far the news agency has declared Trump winner in more than 15 states including Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky, West Virginia, California etc.
The number 270 is attributed to the minimum electoral college votes, which are required to be secured by a US presidential candidate to be declared a winner. It is worth noting, that a candidate has to win at least 270 electoral votes, regardless of the popular votes won by them. The electoral college votes are distributed among 50 states depending on the population.
The voting for US Presidential Elections began on November 5, which concluded late at night. The vote counting is underway and the result may be declared on November 6 or after a few more days based on the vote counting margins.
