Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced plans to integrate artificial intelligence in all processes and offerings during the company's annual general meeting on Thursday. The billionaire businessman hailed Reliance as a ‘deep-tech innovator’ and reiterated the its promise to bring AI to “every Indian”. Ambani also announced the Jio AI Cloud Welcome offer with 100 GB of free cloud storage for users.
“…we are embedding AI into all our processes and offerings, creating end-to-end workflows with real-time, data-driven insights and automation. This is helping us deliver smarter, more responsive services, to both internal users and customers. To streamline AI adoption, Jio is developing a comprehensive suite of tools and platforms that span the entire AI lifecycle. We call this Jio Brain,” he told shareholders.
The company plans to utilise AI applications to streamline functions within the retail, entertainment, agriculture, healthcare and education sectors.
“In the retail sector AI can help optimise inventory management, reduce waste and ensure that the right products are always available at the right time. In healthcare AI can assist doctors in diagnosing diseases more accurately and faster than ever before --- potentially saving countless lives. In entertainment AI can create a personalised experience for users and make content more engaging and relevant. In agriculture AI can analyse vast amount of data from various sources such as weather patterns, soil health and crop growth to provide farmers with actionable insights to increase farm productivity and income. Similarly in the education sector AI can offer personalised learning experiences, help students learn at their own pace and in their own style regardless of their location or background,” Ambani explained.
The company also announced plans to set up gigawatt-scale AI-ready data centres in the Jamnagar area of Gujarat. Efforts to create “the world's lowest AI inferencing cost” within India will also include the launch of a suite of AI tools and platforms.
Ambani said that Reliance Industries was currently laying the groundwork for a “truly national AI infrastructure” and stressed the need to make artificial intelligence accessible to everyone. The array of new offerings under development will also include a service dubbed ‘Jio Phonecall AI’ which lets users record and store any call in Jio Cloud and automatically transcribe it.
“Jio Phonecall AI can record and store any call in Jio Cloud and automatically transcribe it, which means automatically convert it from voice to text. It can also summarize the call, and even translate it into another language. This allows anyone to easily capture and access important voice conversations, making them searchable, shareable, and understandable across languages—all with just a few clicks,” explained Akash Ambani during the AGM.
Meanwhile the Jio AI-Cloud Welcome offer will be launched later this year during Diwali.
“Jio users will get up to 100 GB of free cloud storage to securely store and access all their photos, videos, documents, all other digital content, and data. And we will also have the most affordable prices in the market for those needing even higher storage,” Ambani said.
